Constituency Report - May 2025
This monthly constituency update complements my weekly Westminster Update, highlighting the great work happening across Stirling and Strathallan.
May was a busy month in the constituency, from visiting Balquhidder community broadband to hosting roundtable events in Bannockburn and visiting Auchterarder’s new banking hub. Read on for a full roundup of my work around the constituency last month, including updates on my casework, details of my next coffee morning in Balfron, and how you can get involved in the issues that matter most to you.
If you’d like to read more, there are links throughout the newsletter, along with a round-up of the articles, available on the news section of my website
I write two regular newsletters: one focused on what’s happening in Parliament and the other covering updates from the constituency, so you can stay informed on the issues that matter both nationally and locally. I hope you find this informative.
Chris Kane, MP for Stirling and Strathallan

📍 Location: Balfron
Helping Communities - Balquhidder Community Broadband
Earlier this month, I visited Balquhidder to meet with the team behind Balquhidder Community Broadband. The group, made up of local volunteers, laid 36km of fibre cable to bring gigabit broadband to their rural community, years before a major provider would. Whilst there, I spoke to David and Brandon, two of the volunteers, about the story. Click here to watch the video.
When I visited, we spoke about the issues they have in getting the money for the project. The initial idea for the project came from the back of a Government voucher scheme, however, this voucher scheme has since been scrapped. I am helping the group raise this with the Government to ensure the payment is made to them. I raised this in Parliament this month, asking the Minister of State for Data Protection and Telecoms, Sir Chris Bryant, to meet with me to resolve this case. Click here to watch me raise this in Parliament.
Listening to Your Views - Roundtable Discussions
I hosted a series of roundtable events on the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill last month. These important and thoughtful conversations gave constituents the chance to share personal stories and different perspectives on a deeply sensitive issue. I’m grateful to everyone who took part. The Bill came back to the House on Friday, 16 May; however, due to the large number of proposed amendments and the high level of interest from MPs wishing to speak, we were only able to vote on two amendments before time ran out on the sitting. Therefore, the debate (and further votes) will continue on Friday, 13 June. I’ll keep the community updated on this Bill via this newsletter.
I regularly host roundtables focused on key topics, and if there’s an issue you’d like to discuss at a future session, please do get in touch.
Supporting Youth Services - Doune & Dunblane Schools Cricket Tournament

I attended the P6 Cricket Festival earlier this month, getting the opportunity to watch over 130 pupils from Doune and Dunblane Primary Schools hitting the pitch. As well as speaking with members from Doune and Dunblane Cricket Club and Active Stirling about the importance of youth services and active learning for school pupils, as well as presenting trophies to the pupils. This month in Parliament, I made a speech on the importance of Youth Services and ensuring they have access to long-term funding. Click here to watch the full speech.
Supporting Business - Cavu Aerospace
In May, I met with the team behind Cavu Aerospace. Based at the University of Stirling’s Innovation Business Park, the company is a pioneer in satellite components in aviation, space, and E-mobility. They deal with major international clients such as Airbus and NASA. I went along and met with the team to find out more about their work and what I can do to support the business in my role.
Supporting Public Services - Auchterarder Banking Hub
After the remaining bank branch closed during the COVID pandemic, Auchterarder was left without a bank for years. However, a new innovative idea was sparked to create a banking hub, where community bankers can set up shop on different days of the week. Now, in a building that formerly housed the public toilets, residents and businesses in Auchterarder have somewhere to bank locally.
I met with Craig McNicoll, who, alongside his wife Kate, runs the hub, to see firsthand what it does for the community and how much of a difference it makes.

Helping Constituents – Casework
In May, my office responded to over 1200 emails and letters, closing over 120 constituent cases. The top topics included international affairs, health services and rural affairs. While my priority remains helping those with individual cases first, my team and I are working to respond to policy questions more quickly. Thank you for your patience —your concerns matter, and I appreciate your engagement.
Keep updated. I post my activities in Parliament and around the constituency on Facebook. Click here to follow.
In the News
The news section of my website is a great way to keep up to date on the issues I’ve been campaigning on recently. In the last month, you can read:
Expansion of Project Gigabit – I welcomed the expansion of Project Gigabit, which now includes Stirling and Strathallan.
The UK/EU Agreement - I shared five ways in which the UK Government’s new agreement with the EU will benefit people in Stirling and Strathallan
Illegally Parked Cars - I raised the issue of illegally parked cars in popular beauty spots in the constituency and called for action to solve this.
That’s all for this month’s constituency roundup. I issue two newsletters: a weekly roundup of what is happening in Westminster, and a monthly roundup of what is happening within the constituency. The Westminster Report will be out at its usual time this Friday.
Please share this newsletter with anybody in Stirling and Strathallan you think would benefit from keeping up to date with my work representing constituents both at home and in London.
Until next time,
Chris Kane,
MP for Stirling and Strathallan
